Patrick Opondi was one of the people Douglas Byrnes passed regularly on his way to work. Byrnes, Hamline's head gymnastics coach,rode by Opondi on his bicycle almost every day. One day, Byrnes said he simply decided to say hello to then-graduate student Opondi, and introduced himself.

After a bicycle accident last semester left him with 10 broken bones, Religion Professor Tim Polk is back on the bike. Polk sustained multiple injuries in a bike accident on Sept. 13 while on Energy Park Drive, as reported in the Sept. 22 issue of The Oracle.

News Brief: Law professor dies of cancer

Angela McCaffrey, Clinical Professor and Director of the School of Law's professional skills instruction died on Jan. 27 at the age of 60 after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Prior to her employment at Hamline, she served as an adjunct faculty member at William Mitchell College of Law and as a staff attorney for Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services.

Shrinking funds strain first-years

With tuition prices rising and less jobs available to help pay for school and loans, first-year students have been hit hard by the financial crisis. According to a New York Times report from Jan. 21, they aren't alone. The poll interviewed 220,000 incoming college first-years from 297 campuses across the country and found that more than ever, students have concerns about paying for college.

THAW Offers Activities to J-Term Community

THAW is a new program series that recently made its debut this J-Term. The program series was designed to entertain students who remained on campus. The Student Leadership and Activities office coordinated THAW, Director of Student Leadership and Activities Wendy Burns said.
