Hamline students don't want to be led, they want to be served. As first-years and students from outside HUSC, we can say that HUSC isn't necessarily involved in the daily lives of Hamline students. Before we started campaigning, we knew very little about HUSC, its role, or its structure. Now that we've started becoming involved over the last month, we have a much better idea of what HUSC should be and how we can make it fulfill its function. We want all of the actions of HUSC to be clear and well-known, and we want students to know that they can come to us with their concerns. Basically, we want to transform HUSC into a real service. We can do this by making it easier for students to suggest resolutions, doing more to get student feedback, ensure frequent meetings within the committees and encouraging students to attend General Assembly.

Inspire Hamline to do more. There are many components to inspiration, but for us, it boils down to three elements: Community, Challenge, and Impact. By connecting people on campus under common goals and different ideas we can foster a strong sense of community. We've done our best to make campus better by fighting to keep J-Term meal plans and reforming the student fee budgeting. Now we see an opportunity to continue to fight for students. Let's challenge the administration to make significant policy changes that affect students boldly known through email and announcements, not snuck in through the fine print. We're David and Cortney, and we're asking for your help to reshape our campus by taking on tough issues. We all must work together to strengthen our community to confront our challenges and create real impact at our Hamline. It's time to do more.

This isn't a one or two person solution as commonly advocated in these contests for new leadership. The problem is that in increasing the level of public impact, HUSC made a lot more promises to the public claiming to keep them informed, claiming to consult them, claiming to involve or collaborate with them, but instead, decisions often do not involve the people, instead they involve politics and antics. We propose using the International Association for Public Participation, National Coalition for Dialogue and Deliberation and Collegiate Link to advance democracy in and out of HUSC with measurable results. In running this campaign, we wanted the student body to know that we can bring HUSC back to the people, really change the face of it, and that's what our candidacy and dedication is about, ensuring more voices are heard and being specific about how we'll do it. JESSICA PEARSON & JAMIE GLOVER
We've heard the voices of those that feel alienated by the hierarchy of HUSC; now we would like them to be active, consistent participants in general assembly. Through dialogue we hope to build relationships within the ranks of HUSC and throughout the entire Hamline community. We want to increase communication between the representatives and their constituents. We are not looking to entirely change HUSC , instead we wish to improve upon the current structure. We want to bring the voice of HUSC back to the students of Hamline. Let's make it happen.
