Does this look familiar? It should - it's what currently makes up the bulk of the ubiquitous Hamline student e-mail forum, CLA Students-Announce Digest. For the 1,900 odd undergraduate students at Hamline, the digest is - or was - the best way to receive news about events happening on campus. The CLA digest is the one forum where Hamline students and their organizations can post events and ensure the information will reach a wide audience.

However, for the better part of this academic year (since the otherwise laudable Gmail switch), the CLA digest has been riddled with so much incomprehensible coding and errors, it is nearly impossible to find any of the relevant information hidden inside.

Now, we're not technology aficionados, and we couldn't tell you why it's happening. But we can tell you that Hamline, as an institution of reasonable size, employs at least several people who should understand how to fix this issue.

Considering the great things Hamline is able to do with technology and their constant innovations, it is entirely nonsensical that the daily bulletin of our largest component school has produced an illegible message for more than a semester.

In the past year, we have seen Hamline pioneer the use of YouTube, and we've seen events on campus covered quickly through their website. We've seen logo resigns, corporate re-branding, technological upgrades and the consideration of an entirely new web management system.

Yet through all of that, no one has taken the requisite time to fix an issue that plagues the majority of Hamline students on a daily basis. It doesn't appear there is any legitimate reason the Information Technology department, the Center for Teaching and Learning, the Student Activities office or anyone else involved in the distribution of the digest should continue to let the problem fester.
