Nay to the lack of updates on the fundraising for the university center. We have a "University Center Task Force," whose job is to coordinate information about the progress of the university center. However, numerous rumors currently engross campus, which would indicate to us that we're not being told quite everything about the status of the university center and its fundraising. Will we still break ground this summer? Where is the money coming from?
Yay to Black History Month. There isn't a '_____ History Month' we don't like. Not to mention Hamline always has a great offering of events and activities associated with Black History Month.
Yay and nay to the Hamline men's hockey team. They won one and lost one this weekend in the face-offs with Gustavus. It was also exciting to see so many fans supporting our team for once. There's still a chance to be the conference champions, guys!
Yay to the folks who slapped the 'Free Iran' t-shirt on the Bishop last week. Not only is a careful consideration of regime change necessary in Iran for the stability of the area, but a large portion of the population seems genuinely unhappy with the current government. Granted, this doesn't at all mean we should 'export' democracy to Iran (this means you, American government.)
Yay to moving student subsidized Stafford loans away from the banking system and having them routed through the federal government for next year. Guaranteed loans for all students who apply sounds like a fantastic idea to us.
Yay to all of Hamline's efforts to help Haiti. Whether through the health packs gathered together and shipped to Haiti or through panel discussiona integrating history, communication, and first-hand tesitmony, we can be proud of everything Hamline has done and will do to help rebuild Haiti.
Nay to the fact that us poor college students don't receive President's Day off. It's a federal holiday - why aren't we able to honor our presidents with a relaxing day at home? It's kind of cruel to give us President's Day off every year since we started elementary school and then just pull it out from under us as soon as we begin college. Not cool guys.
