The two teams skated to a 2-2 tie on Friday, and the Pipers shutout the Cobbers 3-0 on Saturday which was also senior night for upcoming Piper graduates.
Friday's game started with a scoreless first period, but first-year Taylor Vichorek broke the tie at 4:13 in the second period with his sixth goal of the season.
The Cobbers evened things up later in the second when junior Michael Weiss slid the puck past Piper goalie junior Beau Christian.
The tie was short lived as junior Kelly Plude regained the lead for the Pipers with only a minute left to play in the second period. Juniors Spencer Anderson and Jared Hummel were credited with the assists.
The Cobbers once again showed resilience, tying the game mid-way through the third period.
Sophomore Mark Harrie scored an unassisted short-handed goal when the Pipers were on a 5-on-3 power play.
Neither team was able to break the deadlock for the remainder of the game and both teams earned a point with the 2-2 tie. Hamline out-shot Concordia 36-30.
The two teams met again Saturday where the Pipers shutout the Cobbers 3-0.
Sophomore Brian Arrigoni started the scoring for the Pipers late in the first period. Arrigoni's tenth goal came on the power play after Concordia's Aaron Wheeler was ejected for a check from behind, giving the Pipers a long power play. Junior Jay Fifield got the only assist on the goal.
The Pipers took the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Junior Austin Tavis scored his fourth goal of the season shorthanded in the second period. Fifield added an assist along with senior Cole Scattarelli.
Concordia only salvaged five shots on net in the second period as the Pipers took a two-goal lead into the final period.
Junior Chris Berenguer sunk any hopes of a Cobber comeback with an empty net goal with a little over four minutes remaining.
The Concordia coach pulled his goalie after a time out creating a 6-on-4 situation after Hamline's first-year forward Dominic Chiappelli was ejected for checking from behind.
Tavis and Fifield both had two-point games, while Christian was able to earn his second shutout of the season.
Hamline ends the regular season at 16-5-4 and 11-3-2 in the MIAC.
The Pipers had a good enough record to earn the two seed in the MIAC playoffs and will host St. Thomas in the MIAC semi-final game on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7:15 p.m.
"We've got home ice. It's a rival so they should bring a lot of people, it should be a sellout so it'll be a great atmosphere," Head Coach Scott Bell said. "Everyone knows what's at stake and our goal all year has been to make it to Lake Placid and we gotta get after it."
