Track & Field: Indoor season concludes at Carleton
Men finish second; women seventh, four Pipers win events

Last weekend at Carleton for the MIAC Indoor Championships, Hamline's men and women's track teams were edged out by St. Thomas. Losing by only seven points, the men's team had four of its team members place first in individual events. The women's team placed seventh overall in the tournament.
At the conference championships, the first three finishers were All-MIAC and places four through six were honorable mention all-conference.
On the opening day of the championships first-year Shaise Shuette, junior Derall King and senior Ian Bauer won their individual events. Senior Andy Marnach won his individual event on the second day of competition.
Shuette took the championship in the pole vault. He was the only competitor to clear 4.60 meters and nearly had an NCAA provisional height.
King continued his dominance in the throwing competitions. He won the weight throw with an NCAA automatic qualifying toss of 18.75 meters. Two of his teammates also had NCAA provisional throws as well.Sophomore Andrew Schlichting and senior Aaron Wilkerson, finished third and fifth respectively.
Five of the nine finalists were Pipers in the shot put. King placed second in the shot put with a throw of 16.31 meters, which is an NCAA provisional. Sophomore Brennan McKeag was third, senior Josh Blaschko was fifth and junior Blake Springman and senior Nate Bell were eighth and ninth.
Bauer's time of 14:52.94 in the 5,000-meter run was good enough to give him an NCAA bid as well. He added a fourth place finish in the 3,000-meter run.
Marnach was the only other Piper to win an individual event when he sprinted to first place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.63 on the second day of competition. He also added an all-conference honorable mention run in the 400-meter dash, finishing sixth in 50.81.
Marnach teamed with junior Tyson Molitor and seniors Brant Luehman and Brent Nelson for the 4X400 where they finished in third place and had a good enough time to qualify for nationals.
